Abstract
Humidity diffuses very rapidly in marble which has a very low porosity. Sandstone has a higher porosity and absorbs far more water which, however, diffuses more slowly within the stone. The amount of water absorbed is proportional to the time of absorption while the diffusion of humidity in the sample has been found to be proportional to the square root of time.
