Abstract
The deterioration of the Cipollino marble and Rosso di Verona columns is due to the action of a crustose epilitic calcicolous lichen which shows an heteromeric structure whose algal component is a chlorophycea. The lichen thallus is in full life efficiency. The abiotic component in the samples examined is made up mainly of calcium oxalate monohydrate and dihydrate. See also AATA 19-1790.
