Abstract
This chapel, constructed in 1910, is already deteriorating. In order to study the different types of deterioration suffered by the stone, different analyses were carried out: petrographic analysis, analysis by means of x-ray, microprobe, XPS spectrometry, Mössbauer spectrography and scanning electron microscopy. On the basis of the results obtained, the main cause of dete rioration of the sandstone is chemical attack resulting in the dissolution of the calcite constituting the intergranular cement.
