Abstract
The main rock materials used in the construction and restoration of the gothic Leon cathedral - Pais, Bonar and Hontoria stones - are mainly calcareous (marlstones, limestones and dolomites) and it can be observed that the different degrees of deterioration shown by these materials are directly related to their lithology. Therefore, the marlstones with a higher clay percentage (Pais stones) are more deteriorated than the others. On the other hand, the higher the rock porosity, the higher the tendency to disintegregate. See also AATA 19-1790.
