Abstract
Results of laboratory research on the effects produced by different kinds of manual and mechanical finish, working on the Pietra serena, on Pietraforte and on Candoglia marble. The effects observed depend upon the type of tool and the stone. The most damaging effects, in respect to the common ways of working, have proved to be those made with the hand-worked bushhammer. Mechanical workings produce more constant effects and are therefore less damaging. Criteria for correct working can be established. See also AATA 14-405 and 19-1790.
