Abstract
The criteria to evaluate durability of stone and the relations between material characteristics and their conclusive strength are discussed. These characteristics are mainly: saturation coefficient, open porosity and pore size distribution, hardness or compressive strength versus water absorption, ratio wet to dry compressive strength, and water penetration coefficient.
