Abstract
A method is proposed for determining the temperature reached by burnt sandstones from prehistoric hearths; it is based on the study of thermoluminescence in the high temperature region of the glow curve. The estimated temperatures for twelve samples from French Magdalenian sites are compared with those reached by stones placed in an experimental fire at different stages of its burning.
