Abstract
Amounts of eighteen trace elements (A1, Ba, Br, Ca, C1, Co, Cu, Fe, K, La, Mg, Mn, Na, Sb, Sc, Sm, V, Zn) were measured by instrumental neutron activation analysis in various samples taken from the following three different manufacturing stages of traditional Japanese paperthe raw materials (bark of three kinds of trees); the materials after beating; and the final products (paper). Except Mn and C1 the amounts of trace elements do not depend on the kind of tree. Most of the trace elements are eliminated in the process of beating and boiling of the barks. The amounts of Co, Cu and Zn are higher in the final products than in the materials after beating.
