In preparation for moving the Smithsonian's anthropology collections to new, improved storage, the museum undertook a comprehensive inventory to provide computerized data on every specimen. To facilitate care the data included constituent materials classified by their conservation requirements and an indication of whether or not conservation treatment is urgent. The paper was presented at a symposium on curation of archaeological collections.
