Abstract
Laboratory experiments support the galvanic cell corrosion theory for the sulfation of marbles. Considering the mechanism of attack formulated by the theory, any protective organic film to be used should diminish or cancel the diffusion of Ca++>s and/or electrons. It is very dangerous to use organic films which accelerate the sulfation. See also AATA 20-1529 and 21-958 for related studies, and 21-914 for entire proceedings.
