The Louvre's collections of Greek and Etruscan ceramics were built up at a time when restorers employed processes which are now condemned for reasons of scientific accuracy as well as damaging the pieces. Efforts were made to undo some of the damage to these collections. General rules were set forth for special treatment involving collaboration between the restorer and the curator in charge of the collection.
