Abstract
This paper details the methodological approaches to the processing, sectioning and staining of fossil bone for light microscopy. The various post mortem histological appearances of such bone are described and the implications of these appearances are outlined. A brief consideration of the effect of post mortem soft tissue decomposition on bone preservation is presented.
