The enhancement of rock art panels by computer using digital image processing software is a recent development in rock art research. Usually the digital image data have been analysed in feature space and with such techniques as contrast and edge enhancement procedures as well as principal component analysis. All of these have been shown to be of value in the decipherment process. The computer enhancement of a South African rock art panel is described using an alternative approach by performing the computations in colour space rather than in feature space.
