Abstract
A paper on biocide treatments of mosaics in Ravenna. The floor mosaic of the ancient south porch in St. Croce Basilica in Ravenna (Italy) is suffering from attack by algae and mosses due to its open-air location. Four biocides were tested (Lito 3. Karmek, Peptide, Velpar) and their performance was evaluated over a 3 -year period (1896 - 1988). Velpar showed the best results, being both effective against biological attack and non-toxic.
