Abstract
It was observed in previous studies that algae on stones are sometimes associated with only tiny growth of fungi. Conversely, parts of stone monuments rich in fungal colonies are not heavily overgrown with algal mats. To explain this phenomenon the authors studied the influence of algae on fungi (and vice versa) when both microorganisms were growing together.
