Deals with efforts by Dresden restorers to reconstitute an early Höroldt vase, made for August the Strong, King of Saxony, from 72 fragments including the marked bottom and the undamaged cover. These efforts were further complicated by glue remnants from earlier restorations, which had to be removed, and the fact that, due to exposure to intense incendiary action, some of the fragments no longer conformed to the original rounded shape of the vase. Also, many of the pieces around the shoulder of the vase are still missing. The restoration filled the missing spaces with white plaster and made no attempt to either complete or invent designs. In order to reconstitute the vase, the fragments had to be reattached to one another by infiltration adhesion (cyanoacrylate Fimofix for fastening and the epoxide resin, Araldite, AY103 with HY 956, for bonding) under the influence of heating. The article further details how the form around which the vase could be restored was fashioned with the aid of aluminum sheeting and hard-foam polystyrene. There is hope that the missing pieces will still turn up someday.
