Identifies the principal objectives of photographic conservation in large institutions such as libraries and archives. These include identification, copying, reprography services to users, cleaning and repair, chemical restoration, testing and research, and defining environmental standards. There is a description of the principal photographic processes used throughout history. Current ANSI standards regarding the storage of photographic records, and the property and stability of photographic materials are identified. The author also includes a case study of the photographic archives at the National Library of Venezuela, where he acted as a consultant sponsored by UNESCO. See also AATA 15-1751. -- AATA
