Abstract
From 1931 to the early 1950's, the excavation of the Agora was in progress; a mixture of gravelly soil and rubble was left; water was scarce in both ancient and modern times. After the restoration of the Stoa of Attalos, landscaping was needed. The planting, under Griswold's supervision, was designed to elucidate the ancient layout of the area. The public and government response to support this project is described. Two ancient gardens have been restored with attention being paid to the planting holes. The landscaping has tied together the excavated area and the standing buildings. -- AATA
