Abstract
This article concerns the idea of expressing the total difference in color between two samples by a single number, calculated from the coordinates of the two samples in some uniform visually-spaced system, using an equation which we call a color- difference equation. Several systems are discussed, such as: the Munsell System; the Adams Chromatic-Value Space; and, the Deutsche Industrie Norm (DIN) system.
