This article discusses the topic of putting numbers on color. An explanation of the CIE and its 1931 coordinate system are explained. An arrangement for matching colors by mixing three primary lights is explained as follows: Experience shows that a wide range of colors can be matched when the primaries are red, blue and green. Numbers representing the intensities of the three primaries are called the tristimulus values of the test color.
