Abstract
Two methodological elements are presented for the interpretation of a solubility test used in varnish cleaning: triangular application of the cleaning windows and sowing of removed matter. Both elements were applied to ten easel paintings, and turned out to be good interpretation indicators. Their usefulness and efficiency is described and discussed for three of the ten paintings. This paper is part of a methodology that lies in between conservation and science, so as to approach the study of pictorial strata in a sensible manner, seeking to solve problems related to restoration, intervention and adequate capture of information from the work under study.
