Abstract
This history and technology of eighteenth century woman’s costume was studied. A technical examination of an altered silk gown and petticoat from the Philadelphia Museum of Art was undertaken. Using evidence of construction details and a toile or muslin copy of the costume, the alterations were dated to the later portion of the eighteenth century.
