Abstract
Study of the deterioration of microcrystalline limestone in Venice. Petrographic study of deterioration, isotopic study of sulfur in sulfate and carbon in carbonate, climatic study. Sulfated crusts detach easily from the stone because of a network of canals underlying them. Sulfur present in the crust is mainly derived from the combustion of hydrocarbons.
