The Scientific Department of the National Gallery (London) was established in 1934. Separate from the Conservation Department, it now has a staff of six chemists working in pairs in the fields of pigments, organic materials, and the environment. The lab's major pieces of equipment are listed; the acquisition of any additional equipment will have to be accompanied by an expansion in staff. -- AATA -- AATA
