Study of a statuette of Kannon Bosatsu excavated in 1983 outside Tokyo, attributed to the 7th century. The statuette was made of almost pure copper containing 0.34 tin, 0.096 lead, 0.99 arsenic, 0. 058 antimony and 0.0097% gold. The lead isotope ratios showed this statuette to be made of Japanese copper ore containing a minute amount of lead. After removal of the mud by soft brushing, the statuette was immersed in a 3% ethanol solution of benzotriazole for 24 hoursunder reduced pressure. Incralac, acrylic resin was applied by reduced pressure impregnation. The fractured parts were repaired by epoxy resin (high-super Cemedine). -- AATA
