Abstract
Describes the construction, condition, and conservatiton of the frail linen dress. The dress was not washed because this would have caused the loss of too much original material. The cloth was exposed to high humidity, which with pinning to shape relaxed the fabric and re-moved most of the creases. Cotton voile support fabric was applied using a variety of stitching techniques, over the weakest areas a nylon net overlay was used as additional protection. Missing areas were reconstructed to show the original appearance of the garment; mounting for display is also described. -- AATA
