An alternative to AATCC Test Method 112-1982, used for the determination of formaldehyde release from fabrics, is described. The new method utilizes the high performance liquid chromotographic determination of the derivative formed between 2, 4-dinitrophenylhydrazine and formaldehyde. This method can be used to identify and quantify formaldehyde in many other materials such as durable press resins and latex compounds suspected of containing or generating formaldehyde. -- AATA
