Abstract
The comparison of two paintings in different techniques by the same artist demonstrates the significance of using different materials to achieve particular effects. Broadly similar pigments were found in both the oil on oak panel and the glue tempera tuchlein on linen by Dieric Bouts. Technical examinations of both pictures revealed their supports, grounds, underdrawings, media, and paint layers. Photographs, references.
