This article describes fired clay cylinder fragments from Deep Creek Rockshelter, southwest Idaho. The fired clay objects were found by archaeologists during test excavations in 1983. The objects are illustrated, and a brief description of their form and archaeological context is provided. They may have been formed around twigs. Association of the fired clay objects with Humboldt and Elko points suggests Early or Middle Archaic period. A brief summary of the context of fired clay objects within the Great Basin is provided. The suggested dating of 5000-2000 B.P. for the Deep Creek finds makes these potentially some of the earliest in the region. Museum professionals may be interested in the use of incipient ceramic techniques at an early date in the Great Basin.
