Abstract
This article warns of the increased risk of cancer, liver damage, and nervous system damage resulting from exposure to 1, 2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate, also know as Dichlorvos, DDVP, or Vapona. The compounds are used in pest strips, flea collars, and other insecticide products. National Cancer Institute Studies and data submitted to the EPA by manufacturers document the increased risk. When choosing fumigation methods, museum professionals may want to consider these warnings along with the possible damage to collections resulting from use of dichlorvos.
