The recovered objects, a small lantern, a fragment of a larger one, and a large dish, have been part of the collection of the Museo Histórico Nacional of Chile since 1911; metallographic examinations were conducted to determine the crystalline structure of the metals and the causes of corrosion. Paraloid B-72 was used where natural patina was absent. The use of a silica gel for conservation purposes is delineated.
