Abstract
Paper discussing the reversibility of treatments using synthetic polymers in conservation. A brief history of the use-in-conservation of synthetic resins is given. Four categories of reversibility are discussed. The effects of application, ageing, removal process, and following the removal process are examined. A completely soluble thermoplastic seems not to be completely removable. Cross-linking polymers can only be removed mechanically.
