In this paper many details of spinning and the fibers used for warp yarns are set forth, which of themselves have no effect on a pattern. Types of pattern in the Near East, however, do keep largely to a single type of warp. There, the fact that S-spun single linen warp yarns are characteristic of Egypt, Z-spun cotton singles of India and two-ply wool warps of Mesopotamia and Persia may be of assistance in establishing provenance.
