The commitment to proper care of collections is evident in numerous ways throughout the Newberry Library: the treatment procedures and research programs conducted by the Conservation Laboratory, the high priority placed on preservation by the Director and the Board of Trustees, the environmental controls, and the conservation sessions for staff members. The new bookstack building which is to be used solely for storage of collections is another indication of the conservation philosophy here.
