Abstract
All over the world, an increasing number of natural scientists have become involved in and dedicated to heritage conservation. At the same time, there are no formal educational programmes for scientists who want to become conservation scientists. A three-year project, named CURRIC and funded by the European Union, was launched by ICCROM in collaboration with nine partner institutions, including universities and conservation institutes. The aim of the project is to provide educational institutions with guidelines for designing and implementing university curricula, including training, practice and research for conservation scientists. The curricula will be structured into modules with European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits. Within this context, core modules containing compulsory subjects necessary for the conservation scientists’ interdisciplinary work with cultural property will be proposed. A suitable didactic methodology, distance learning for example, for teaching certain core module components will also be designed. The project will seek to establish a partnership of institutions willing to pilot the proposed curricula. -- SCMRE
