Abstract
Resource constraints and pressures to encourage access to higher education have led to a growing interest in information and communications technology (ICT) to support distance learning. Distance learning theory and practice is briefly reviewed. Its potential for career-entry and post-entry conservation education is discussed. One benefit appears to be the enhancement of students’ sense of responsibility for managing their education. A case history is included. -- SCMRE
