Abstract
An attempt to relate the corrosion of tin bronzes to the chemistry of the soil in which they have been buried. With the exception of peat, a reasonable relationship appears to exist between the ph of soil and the state of metal, acid soils being more aggressive. In no case were sulphate reducing bacteria active in promoting corrosion. Peat soil was benign in spite of acidity.
