In the spring of 1983, an exhibition of sculptures geared for the blind was mounted at the British Museum. Because the pieces were to be handled a great deal, only sculptures made of hard stone could be exhibited. All of the pieces underwent consolidation and cleaning before they were placed on display. Precautionary measures were taken during the exhibition period. Among them, the sculptures were inspected daily for damage, and visitors were encouraged to clean their hands before entering the exhibit area.
