Discusses observations and research into the question of the extent of remains of paint and ground materials on ancient Indian stone sculpture and the nature of these materials. Various articles concerning this subject are cited including a reference to one case where pigment analysis was carried out. The author concludes the article by stressing the importance that chemical analysis would have in furthering research in this area of study. -- AATA
