Some granite samples from different archaeological sites in Egypt were investigaged essentially by x-ray analysis. The cause of deterioration differs from one site to another according to the surrounding environmental Fonditions. In the present work, it is shown that deterioration of granite is due to: 1) alteration of the constituent minerals 2) effect of water and its degree of salinity; 3) great variation in temperature. -- AATA
