Caring for baskets in museum collections often involves proper cleaning and mending techniques. For numerous reasons, dust is harmful to basketry. Dust can be removed by: brushing with a soft brush, blowing with a jet of air, vacuum cleaning, or wet washing. After cleaning, some baskets require first aid mending to prevent further deterioration, which involves affixing loose elements with appropriate starch paste adhesive and paper such as Japanese tissue.
