Abstract
An attempt is made to determine the thermoluminecence (TL) age of fossil human footprints left on the lithic tuff level found in the western part of Anatolia. The unique and rare conditions which allowed the TL age determination of this material are: a) the crystalline content of the material, and the b) resetting of the TL clock by the hot scoria covering the footprints, which also preserved them from further weathering. The TL age of material included samples from the tuff on and below the surface of the footprint as well as from the scoria above. The TL age of scoria was found to be 26,000 years, consistent with the geomorphological estimates. The TL age of the tuff from the surface and below was found to be 50,000 years.
