A former bay of the Baltic Sea, north of Lubeck, was excavated to identify changes in the economies of early human settlements. This site, covered with marine sediments and peat, exemplifies ideal conditions for preserving organic materials. Information was obtained about the development of animal domestication and the beginning of agriculture in northern Germany. Dendrochronological studies, radiocarbon measurements, and pollen analyses were used in this research. -- AATA
