Abstract
The presence of titanium may vary throughout the heterogeneous stucture of colored glasses of medieval cathedral stained glasses, bearing witness to: the location of glassworks; possible different origins of the colored and uncolored parts of the same glass, or of various glasses in the same cathedral; changes in composition of sandpits over the course of centuries. A physical analysis of the samples by the method has been designed especially for this study of the stained glasses in coordinating the data coming from electron probe microanalyzer, scanning electron microscopy, ion analyzers and optical microscopy in the form of correlation-diagrams. These diagrams give the accurate distribution (to a micron) of all data variations: elementary composition, color, chemical and physical properties. This study of a wide variety of old inventories of stained glasses found in Europe utilizes geological maps and sand pits. -- AATA
