Insects are the most harmful of all biodeterioration agents which are responsible for destroying museum objects. White ants infest wooden objects most profusely. Textile damaging pests move into museums from abandoned nests of birds, rodents, bees, wasps, etc. The most common pest of paper and other archival materials is silverfish. The insecticide used should be non-staining and harmless to human beings. If the infestation is of low intensity, spraying with insecticide is sufficient; in widespread infestation, fumigation is recommended. Detailed life cycles of various insects and the chemical methods of insect control on various museum objects are also given. Very high or very low temperatures and short radio waves can also be used to kill the pests. -- AATA
