Abstract
Activation analysis of Canadian and Turkish clays showed that the elements Cs, Th, Sc, Hf, Ta, and Co were the most useful elements for obtaining a differentiation as to provenance by multivariate analysis. The same elements were used to study a variety of Turkish potsherds. Roman and Byzantine pottery from Yalincak, and Phrygian pottery from Great Tumulus and Tumulus 2 were probably made from local clay beds. Phyrgian pottery from Yalincak tended to form a small subgroup; however, there were large numbers of outliers. No such grouping was found with the Bronze Age pottery analyzed. -- AATA
