The general nature and nutritional roles of fungi in broad biological per spective are presented, and the major processes involved in the nutrition of saprobic fungi with emphasis on control principles are reviewed. In addition, the special nutritional needs of the <i>Aureobasiaium pullulans, the predominant fungus of paint mildew, are considered in relation to mildew control strategies. -- AATA
