Abstract
The Director of the Laboratory of Anthropology, Sante Fe, New Mexico, points out adverse effects of treating archaeological artifacts in museum exhibits and associated publications as treasures to be collected. Current practice in this regard has fostered looting of sites and thefts to supply a profitable market. Archaeologists are advised to use exhibits, television, and other means to educate the public aggressively concerning the loss of knowledge inherent in the unscientific collection of artifacts. -- AATA
