Abstract
Raw and bleached jute fibers were dyed with catechu tannic acid and catechin, two natural dyes from the acacia tree, and mordanted with alum, copper, zinc, aluminum, and ferrous sulfates. Dye absorption was measured as a function of mordant concentration. The absorption of catechu tannic acid was affected by bleaching. Generally, however, the dyes were even and fast to washing and light. Chromium and copper sulfate were found to be optimal for colorfastness.
