Abstract
Three similar limestones, Indiana, Vicenza, and Lecce, were consolidated with an acrylic resin (Acryloid B72) using different solvents to perfom the impregnation. It was found that the hydrophobic behavior of the treated stones was dependent not only on the solvent used for the impregnation but also on the length of time the samples were in contact with water. The change in porosity and water absorption, and other analytical data, is discussed. These laboratory results can aid in the evaluation of the effectiveness of this resin with regard to it's water repellent properties when used in practical applications.
